Toro Wine

Toro DO got its DO status in 1987. It consists of 12 municipalities in the province of Zamora and 3 in Valladolid. This denomination lies to the south of the Douro River, it has a continental climate, arid and with harsh temperatures, especially in winter when there even are some frosts. The land, generally hilly, has different characteristics depending on where it is located: it is typical of the riverbanks near the Douro river, sandy far away from the rivers and brown and loamy in the north.

The vineyards of the DO extend over 6,000 hectares, and there are 48 wineries that produce wines. Its 1269 vinegrowers use red varieties of grapes to produce their red wines (mainly the Tempranillo variety). This strain makes for aromatic and complex wines that are renowned in Spain and abroad. Besides, the Garnacha is a grape variety used for the red wines. For white wines, Malvasia and Verdejo are the main varieties in this area.
